When Prithviraj Sukumaran wanted Mammootty for ‘Bro Daddy’—Here’s why it didn’t happen | Malayalam Movie News
Prithviraj Sukumaran, who recently began promotions for ‘L2: Empuraan‘ starring Mohanlal, shared an interesting revelation about his 2022 directorial ‘Bro Daddy‘.
In a conversation with Galatta Plus, the actor-director disclosed that his initial choice for the lead role of John Kattadi was Mammootty.
Prithviraj explained that his first vision of the character was quite different from what audiences eventually saw.”I initially approached Mammukka for Bro Daddy and envisioned him as John Kattadi. However, the character I had in mind was quite different from what you see today. My original concept was a Kottayam Kunjachan-inspired character—an affluent yet grounded Christian family man,” he shared.
What intrigued Prithviraj even more was the idea of showcasing Mammootty in a lighthearted, romantic role.
The ‘L2: Empuraan’ director said that he thought it would be ‘Cute’ to see Mammootty as a lovestruck husband, head over heels in love with his wife. “Of late, nobody associates Mammootty sir with such a character,” he added.
Although Mammootty liked the script, he couldn’t commit to it as an immediate project. He even suggested waiting to work on it later. However, Prithviraj was keen on directing ‘Bro Daddy’ during the pandemic due to its confined setting and limited cast requirements. He also mentioned that if he were to collaborate with Mammootty in the future, he would prefer a grander project rather than a film of ‘Bro Daddy’s scale.
On the other hand, Mammootty and Prithviraj Sukumaran has worked together in several movies. In one of the earlier films ‘One Way Ticket’, Prithviraj Sukumaran played a character who is an ardent fan of Mammootty. In ‘Pokkiri Raja’, Prithviraj Sukumaran played Mammootty’s brother.
Speculations are rife that Mammootty will be playing a cameo role in ‘L2: Empuraan’. There has been no confirmation on the same.
