Stacy London and Clinton Kelly reflect on their past makeovers on show What Not to Wear- Makeover; says, “If you don’t like them..”

Stacy London and Clinton Kelly are looking back at some of the makeovers they gave guests on their reality show—and they stand by their choices. As hosts of the popular fashion series from 2003 to 2013, they helped people revamp their wardrobes. However, more than a decade later, some of those early 2000s styles now seem outdated.
In a recent interview, the duo was asked to reconsider some of the bold fashion choices they made for guests. London, 55, and Kelly, 56, largely defended their picks, which included eye-catching prints, bedazzled tops, extremely pointy heels, and plenty of bootcut jeans.
Kelly dismissed the idea that their advice stripped guests of their individuality. He specifically mentioned Ed, a participant known for his brightly colored suits.
“He wore zoot suits,” Kelly explained. “We just toned it down a little to make it more stylish.”
He also shared that he stayed in touch with Ed for a decade after the show and that Ed was genuinely happy with the transformation. “He found a real love for clothes. I don’t care what people say—Ed loved it, and that’s what mattered.”
London added that their impact went beyond just clothing. “The clothes were just the starting point. The real transformation happened when people realized, ‘If I can change my look, I can change my circumstances.’ It made them feel more confident and powerful.”
While they acknowledge that they followed a set formula on their old show, they’re taking a different approach for their upcoming fashion series, where the focus will be on embracing personal style without strict rules.
