Following the release of ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ Nag Ashwin praised ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra,’ a Malayalam superhero film starring Kalyani Priyadarshan. The film, celebrated as Malayalam cinema’s first female superhero project, blends Kerala folklore with magic and dark powers. ‘Lokah’ has garnered positive reviews and strong box office numbers, opening with Rs 2.7 crore and reaching Rs 6.45 crore in two days.

When a visionary filmmaker like Nag Ashwin, fresh off the success of ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ praises a film, it instantly grabs attention. That’s exactly what happened after he watched ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra,’ the Malayalam superhero spectacle headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan.Taking to Instagram, Ashwin wrote, “Yes yes… seated for the Lokah-verse.” He further added, “And the whole team again… great job,” tagging director Dominic Arun, Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Jakes Bejoy, and Nimish Ravi.

The film has already been hailed as Malayalam cinema’s pride project, introducing the region’s first female superhero through the character of Chandra. Drawing from Kerala’s rich folklore and blending myth, magic, and dark powers, the movie is hailed for its grounded narrative and stunning performances, especially from Kalyani Priyadarshan, who has been lauded for bringing power to a superhero character.

Box office numbers signal big success for ‘Lokah’

If early reviews weren’t enough, the box office figures are echoing the film’s impact. As per Sacnilk, ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’ opened with Rs 2.7 crore on day one, driven by the Malayalam version.Collections jumped 39% on day two, touching Rs 3.75 crore across languages. Malayalam contributed Rs 3.4 crore and Telugu Rs 35 lakh. That brings its total to a solid Rs 6.45 crore in just two days. Theater occupancy has also shown strong momentum, with Friday night shows hitting 82.84%. This is surely a clear indicator of growing word-of-mouth.On the other hand, Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira’ is getting mixed reviews.
