You can find numerous diets on the internet for weight loss. While some may help, others are completely crazy diets. Angelina Marie, 30, a full-time mother-of-two from Mississippi, picked up a diet, that is considered a ‘terrible idea’ by many health experts. But her experience was quite the opposite. She dropped 60 lbs and she has never felt better!
Marie was desperate to lose weight after hitting 209lbs. She decided to embrace a ‘carnivore’ diet.
What is a carnivore diet?

The carnivore diet is a type of ‘keto’ or ‘ketogenic’ diet that only allows the consumption of meat, poultry, eggs, seafood, fish, some dairy products, and water. This means one has to exclude all vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, seeds, and nuts. This is the reason why sometimes it is referred to as the ‘zero carb’ diet.

Angelina Marie learned about the carnivore diet online, and she stopped eating carbohydrates, and also ditched the processed foods in her refrigerator, and stocked up on steaks.
In the first seven days, Marie dropped 11 lbs and she was shocked, “I couldn’t believe the scale.”
“I started the carnivore diet 4 Months ago, lost 45 pounds, & feel incredible,” Marie said in an Instagram post in Jan. 2025.
Six months into the diet, now she has lost 62 lbs and has never felt better. Marie, who shares her fitness journey on TikTok and Instagram, revealed that she shed the pounds purely through diet as she was not fond of exercise.
However, now she has started to lift weights, not for weight loss, but to get stronger. In fact, she has gained a few pounds of muscle mass due to that.
Angelina Marie’s carnivore diet includes fasting until midday and then eating home-cooked scrambled eggs with bacon or scallops wrapped in bacon. The next meal is generally around 6 pm, which is three hours before her bedtime. The dinner is generally something like a steak, pork chops, or chicken wings.
For snacks, she eats beef jerky or meat sticks. She does not count calories and only weighs herself once a week to check her progress. Marie claims that along with the weight loss, she also feels less bloated and her skin is better. She adds that she has developed a better relationship with food ever since being on the diet as it ‘teaches you how to intuitively eat’.
“[Now] I eat when I’m hungry, I stop when I’m full and I hydrate aggressively in between,” she adds.

In one of her TikTok videos, Marie also warns her followers about the common side effect of a carnivore diet, which is the ‘carnivore flu’.
“[This is when] your body is not used to having as much fats and high protein and no carbs, no sugar. So, you might get headaches, you might get diarrhea, you might get nausea. All of these things are expected, but you have to be ready. I always suggest having a high-quality electrolyte and eating red meat because it is very nutrient-intensive compared to leaner meats. This is going to have more fat and more protein than chicken breast, so you’re going to feel a lot better faster,” Marie says in the video.

Carnivore diets have gained popularity on social media in recent years, however, health experts often warn against it. The interest is fueled by advocates like Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson, who say it’s improved their mental and physical abilities.
Animal fat is mostly saturated fat and is the unhealthiest type of fat as it raises levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol. According to a Harvard study, a carnivore diet can potentially increase the risk of kidney stones, gout, and osteoporosis. As it is very high in protein, the carnivore diet can lead to impaired kidney function.

A 2023 study has found that a carnivore diet can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Higher consumption of red meat too is linked with an increased risk of heart disease by 18 percent for each additional 50 grams eaten per day.
Experts often advise having a balanced diet, which includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, along with wholegrain carbohydrates, and healthy animal products like lean cuts of meat, dairy, and eggs.
