I was threatened & ransom demanded: Kaka accuses music producer of fraud

After Sunanda Sharma, another leading Punjabi singer, Kaka aka Ravinder Singh, has filed a police complaint against music producer Pinky Dhaliwal and his son Gurkaran Dhaliwal. In a press conference held in Chandigarh on Thursday, Kaka accused the producer and his company of criminal offenses, including cheating, breach of trust, dishonest misappropriation of property, forgery, fraud, extortion, criminal intimidation, and violations under the Copyright Act and IT Act.
“My team and I have been requesting Dhaliwal since seven months to return my money. But instead of responding to our requests, he sent threatening messages to cause me physical harm if I persisted. When they did not respond to our legal notices also, we were compelled to lodge a complaint with the police on March 11,” Kaka said.
Kaka also claims that the accused illegally retained his YouTube channel and digital assets, demanding four additional songs or a ransom of ₹2 crores to release his passwords and intellectual property. Despite issuing a formal termination notice on 5 August 2024 and a legal notice on 28 February 2025, the producer did not stop his unlawful activities, Kaka claims.
What happened?
Kaka says he signed a 3-year contract, however the production company failed to honor their financial commitments, paying only ₹2.50 crores out of the promised ₹6.30 crores. While Kaka says he fulfilled his contractual obligations by delivering 20 songs—exceeding the agreed 18 songs—the producer did not release the revenue, manipulated financial statements, and presented forged reports to underreport earnings.
