George Clooney thinks Wes Moore, as a Democratic leader, could win back the White House in 2028

Hollywood star George Clooney has made it clear who he thinks could lead the Democrats back to the White House in 2028 — Maryland Governor Wes Moore. The actor, known not just for his films but also for his political views, has been openly critical of the party’s current direction. With the next generation of Democratic leaders stepping into the spotlight, Clooney seems to have already made up his mind.
George Clooney picks his 2028 favourite
During a chat with CNN host Jake Tapper, Clooney didn’t hesitate to share his views on who is rising above the rest and said, “There’s one person in particular I think is spectacular.”
While he did praise other Democratic leaders, like Kentucky’s Governor Andy Beshear and Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Clooney said it’s Wes Moore who stands out. “But who I think is … levitating above that is Wes Moore,” he added.
Why Clooney is backing Wes Moore?
Clooney had strong reasons for picking Moore as a top future leader. He pointed to the way Moore dealt with the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore earlier this year and highlighted his military service, and his leadership at a major charity. “I think he is a guy that has handled this tragedy in Baltimore beautifully. He does two tours of duty in Afghanistan – active duty. He speaks beautifully. He’s smart. He ran a hedge fund – the Robin Hood Foundation. He’s a proper leader,” Clooney said.
“I like him a lot,” he added. “I think he could be someone we could all join in behind.”

Clooney: Time is running out for Democrats
Clooney’s support for Moore comes at a time when the Democratic Party is searching for its future star. Clooney himself made headlines when he urged Joe Biden to step out of the 2024 race in an opinion piece in The New York Times. Now, he’s warning that time is ticking. “We have to find somebody rather soon,” Clooney said. “It’s our job now to put together a proper team to stand up because [Democrats are] right now polling very poorly.”
Moore has previously supported Biden, even as the president faced growing concerns about his age and sharpness. But Moore’s name is now being floated as someone who could carry the party forward.
Wes Moore may not have announced any plans for 2028, but endorsements like Clooney’s are helping put him in the spotlight.
Meanwhile, on the film front, George Clooney’s latest appearance was in ‘Wolves’, an American action-comedy directed by Jon Watts. The film features an ensemble cast, including Brad Pitt, Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan, blending thrilling action with comedic elements for an exciting cinematic experience.
