Woman dies as car driven by boy rams hut near Erode | Coimbatore News

ERODE: A woman sleeping in a hut died when a car driven by a 17-year-old boy rammed into it at Bhavani in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as K Karpagavalli, 35, wife of Karuppanan of Jallikkal Medu.
The boy — a Class IX student — from Periyar Nagar area in Tirupur district reached his relative Saravanan’s home at Varanapuram on Sunday.
Around 10pm, he took Saravanan’s car to practise driving. When the car reached Jallikkal Medu area, the boy lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road, crashed into a tender coconut stall on the right, plunged into a drainage ditch and rammed Karpagavalli’s hut, killing her on the spot. Her husband escaped without an injury.
The boy sustained injuries on his chest, face and head. He survived the accident as the car’s airbags were deployed. He was admitted to a private hospital in Erode.
The Bhavani police registered a case. The body of the woman was sent to the Erode Government Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai for postmortem.
