Agartala: Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the founder of TIPRA Motha and a key ally of the ruling BJP in Tripura, has signalled a major political move aimed at uniting regional parties across the northeast. An important announcement is anticipated within the next three days.Debbarman underscored the primacy of national security over political rivalries, expressing concerns about the potential for an anti-India govt to emerge from the upcoming elections in Bangladesh.In a social media update, he revealed ongoing dialogues with various regional parties, advocating for a united front among northeastern states to achieve equitable development. “The central government will only take us seriously if we put aside our internal conflicts and stand united for our communities. Division benefits no one in the northeast. By joining forces, we can address at least half of our issues,” he stated.He also raised alarms over reports of counterfeit Bangladeshi ID cards linked to political figures in Tripura, labelling it a “conspiracy” serving external interests. Debbarman pointed to sightings of Pakistani military personnel in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts, questioning their purported humanitarian mission. “If their intentions were genuinely humanitarian, we would expect to see doctors, not brigadiers and generals,” he said.Debbarman warned that an unfriendly govt in Dhaka could destabilize West Bengal and northeastern states like Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura, fostering unrest and communal tensions. He called for political maturity and a collective approach, emphasizing that citizen safety and peace should be the top priority. “The agendas of CPM, BJP, and Motha must take a backseat; the safety of our people is our primary focus. There is a troubling wave of hatred spreading across social media that hints at a larger scheme,” he added.Drawing parallels to recent political upheavals in Nepal and Bangladesh, Debbarman cautioned that the northeast faces a serious threat. “Our true struggle is against the hatred spilling over from the borders,” he concluded, reiterating that “national security must take precedence over political agendas.”
