ONE Championship Friday Fight Night called off after devastating 7.7 earthquake strikes Thailand and Myanmar | MMA News

The ONE Championship Fight Night event in Bangkok was canceled by ONE Championship after a devastating earthquake of 7.7 magnitude hit Myanmar late Thursday night. Widespread damage was reported even as far as Thailand, more than 600 miles from the epicenter of the quake.
The event was supposed to be held at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, but it was canceled due to safety concerns. The earthquake caused panic in Bangkok, where one high-rise building under construction collapsed and killed at least three people while making 90 others missing, said Thailand’s Defense Minister. In Myanmar, the situation is much worse. Heavy devastation was wrought over the capital city of Naypyidaw, with overcrowded hospitals full of injury victims. “This is a mass casualty area,” said a medic of this hospital, adding at least 20 deaths and many more injuries confirmed.
ONE Championship announces cancellation via social media post
ONE Championship made the announcement on social media: “Due to the recent earthquake in Myanmar and its effects on Bangkok, tonight’s ONE Friday Fights 102 has been canceled. Our thoughts are with everyone affected. Stay safe”
A strong magnitude 6.4 aftershock hit shortly after the first earthquake, causing further damage. A state of emergency has been declared in six states of Myanmar, followed by emergency measures declared in some affected areas of Thailand as well.
Tremors were felt in other neighboring countries like China and Bangladesh, but Thailand was the worst hit outside Myanmar itself. Videos circulating on social media showed skyscrapers violently swaying in Bangkok, with some partially collapsing.
Despite the chaos, Bangkok’s airports are normal operations, according to Thai aviation officials. Emergency teams are working to rescue survivors trapped under rubble while hospitals prepare for casualties.

It is one among the strongest quakes that the area has witnessed in years, and currently, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. People are advised to avoid unstable buildings as well as to prepare themselves for possible aftershocks.
As the world watches, the focus remains on saving lives and aiding survivors in both Myanmar and Thailand.
