NRI woman found hanging from shower pipe at Vizag hotel | Visakhapatnam News

VISAKHAPATNAM: A 48-year-old NRI woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the washroom of a hotel under Three Town police station limits in Vizag city. Though the incident occurred on March 6, it came to light on Saturday (March 8).
The police withheld the identity of the deceased, but sources identified her as K Roja, an NRI working as a software professional in the US. Roja was a native of Vizag city.
According to the hotel manager’s statement, one P Sridhar reserved a room through an online application. He checked into Room No 229 on March 6 afternoon. Subsequently, a woman entered his room. A few hours later, Sridhar approached the hotel reception and requested the staff to unlock his room door, claiming it had been accidentally locked.
While the hotel staff proceeded to unlock the door, Sridhar became emotional and began weeping, stating that his friend Roja became unconscious. When Sridhar and the staff entered inside the room, they found Roja dead. The body was found hanging in the washroom.
Sources said that Sridhar is a native of Vizag city and he is a doctor in the US. A few weeks ago, Sridhar came to Vizag city while Roja came to Vizag two weeks ago.
Cops book case of suspicious death
On March 8, Vizag police released a press note saying that the manager of hotel stated that he found one woman (48) dead by suicide by hanging in a room with her chunni to the washroom shower pipe.
Based on the report of the manager, a case under section 194 of BNSS ( suspicious death due to hanging) was registered at Three Town police station and it is under investigation to know the exact cause of death. Vizag city police Shanka Brata Bagchi told newsmen that their preliminary investigation revealed that the woman died by suicide. However, investigation is on to find out abetment if any, he added.
