ERODE: A man’s neck was slit during a drunken brawl near Gobichettipalayam in Erode district on Wednesday night.The injured man has been identified as S Duraisamy, 51, of Kamaraj Nagar. He is a labourer. He was admitted to Perundurai Government Medical College and Hospital where his condition is said to be stable. The Siruvalur police arrested V Sathishkumar, 28, of Kamaraj Nagar on attempt to murder charges.Around 10pm on Wednesday, Duraisamy, his brother-in-law, Selvakumar, and Sathishkumar were consuming liquor near a Tasmac shop in the area. “While they were drinking, a dispute arose between Duraisamy and Sathishkumar. In a fit of rage, Sathishkumar went to his house, returned with a knife and slit Duraisamy’s neck before fleeing the scene,” said an officer at the Siruvalur police station.On being alerted by locals, the Siruvalur police arrived at the scene, rescued Duraisamy and rushed him to the government hospital in the town. He was later referred to the Perundurai Government Medical College and Hospital.Sathishkumar was remanded in judicial custody.
