Mirjam Poterbin cheered on for her son as he scored 45 points with eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. She also shared a post on Instagram, where she was seen donning the Lakers jersey. Luka Doncic was born to Sasa Doncic and Mirjan Poterbin. However, the duo separated when Luka was only nine years old. Commenting on his love for the game since a young age, his mother, Mirjan shared with EuroLeague Basketball’s Table Talk, “Since day one, (when)) Luka started to walk, he was crazy about basketball. Even when he had birthdays, for the present he always said, ‘I want to have basketball or sneakers.'” At the age of 13 he signed a five year contract with Real Madrid and had to move to Spain. Mirjam shared, “I was a little scared in the beginning because first I said, ‘Maybe Luka, you can think about it,’ but he looked me in my eyes and said, ‘Mum, I want to try,’ So that was the moment I knew I had to let him go.”
However, things have not always been smooth between the Los Angeles Lakers’ star and his mother. At 13, when Luka Doncic needed a manager, he turned to his mother. Later in 2022, they had a legal conflict as Mirjam owned the trademark for ‘LUKA DONCIC 7’. Back in November 2018, 19 year old Doncic gave his mother the written consent to register his name as a trademark. The trademark was then officially registered in January 2020.
Later Luka would face challenges as he lost control over his name that affected his brand, his endorsements and his charity work. His petition to cancel the trademark failed. His mother denied many attempts by Luka to cancel the trademark. The matter was settled quietly in court and lawyers from either side have refused to speak on the case.

However, with Mirjam cheering on her son in the recent match is a sign that their relationship has improved over the years. Fans also commented on the picture shared by Mirjam. A user wrote in Slovenian, “What an emotional game, what a great man Luka is, time and again, superchamp by super mommy.” Another user wrote, “The most beautiful.”
