Kurukshetra PNDT team busts sex determination racket in Ambala; two held, Rs 60,000 seized

AMBALA: In a crackdown on illegal prenatal sex determination, the PNDT (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) team from Kurukshetra district has exposed a racket operating in Ambala Cantonment. Based on a tip-off, the team laid a trap that led to the arrest of two individuals involved in the activity.According to officials, the investigation began after the team received a tip-off regarding a person named Rajji, a resident of Ambala, who was allegedly offering illegal sex determination services. An undercover decoy customer was sent to approach Rajji, who agreed to conduct the test in exchange for Rs 60,000.Rajji instructed the decoy to meet him at Football Chowk, Ambala Cantt. From there, he took the decoy to the Civil Hospital nearby. At the hospital, they met a person named Sagar, who arranged a routine hospital slip and managed to get a doctor to prescribe an ultrasound. The decoy was then taken to a radiologist, where an ultrasound was conducted. The radiologist confirmed that the woman was pregnant and advised a consultation with a gynaecologist. As soon as Sagar stepped out of the facility, the PNDT team apprehended him.Upon searching them, the authorities recovered Rs 32,000 from Sagar and Rs 28,000 from Rajji. Both individuals are reportedly associated with the CNA Church locality.Further investigation is underway, and officials have confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against all those involved. Authorities reiterated their commitment to preventing female foeticide and upholding the law against gender-based discrimination before birth.A police officer said a case was being registered at Ambala Cantonment police station.Dr Ramesh Sabharwal, deputy civil surgeon, Kurukshetra district, said, “Two persons were held for fraudulently running a sex determination racket at Ambala Cantonment civil hospital. We have handed them over to the Ambala police, and an FIR has been lodged in Ambala. Further investigation into their background and involvement in such practices is underway.
