Roc Nation announced that the rapper’s halftime show has become the most-watched Super Bowl performance, with 133.5 million viewers, surpassing Michael Jackson’s record of 133.4 million in 1993. The NFL has likely leaned towards younger, hipper artists to capture this audience.
Apple Music began sponsoring the halftime show in 2023, featuring Rihanna. Apple Music and Beats’ vice president, Oliver Schusser, stated in 2024 that viewership stats are not their success metric. “Our mission is to work with the NFL and Roc Nation to make the halftime show bigger and more global, and a longer event,” Schusser said. “We want it to be about more than just that Sunday night. There is a bigger story to tell before and after.”
