KDMC to launch one-window building permission system from August 15; first in Maharashtra to streamline permissions online | Thane News

KALYAN: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) is set to roll out a one-window system for building permissions, beginning 15 August. This initiative will be the first-of-its-kind in Maharashtra, aimed at simplifying the process for citizens, builders, and architects by eliminating the need to visit multiple departments.Currently, those applying for building permissions must approach up to eight different departments, including fire, water, drainage, and the tree department. With the new system, applicants can submit details online through a dedicated building permission portal. These will be automatically forwarded to the relevant departments.Officials from each department will be required to grant permission within a stipulated time based on the documents submitted. If there is any deficiency in documentation or if permission is pending, the applicant can view the status online. In addition, updates will be sent via SMS to the builder or architect, who can respond digitally. Final approval will be granted once the required corrections are made, and each approved file will include a unique barcode. To ensure efficiency and accountability, KDMC has set a 10-day deadline for officials to process any file. The Town Planning Department has integrated all concerned departments with the Building Plan Management System (BPMS) recently launched by the government.Santosh Dohiphode, Additional Town Planner of KDMC, stated that KDMC would be the first municipal corporation in Maharashtra to implement such a one-window system. “The Town Planning Department of KDMC will be the first corporation in Maharashtra to implement such a one window system, allowing people to benefit from this facility from August 15. All employees have already been trained, and the architects and developers of the city are also being informed about it,” he said.KDMC commissioner Abhinav Goel praised the development: “This initiative represents a significant milestone in our commitment to transparent governance, efficient service delivery, and planned urban growth. The SOP will enhance the Agenda of Government i.e. Ease of Doing Business. The SOP has been carefully designed to streamline processes, ensure uniformity in planning procedures, and enhance coordination among departments and stakeholders.”He added, “With this step, we aim to ensure that every application, development proposal, and citizen inquiry is addressed through a clearly defined, time-bound, and accountable system. This will empower not only our internal teams but also the architects, developers, and citizens who engage with the Town Planning Department.”It is worth noting that KDMC was also the first municipal body in the country to go digital back in 2002. Its e-governance model was recognised nationally and even recommended as a module for other local self-government bodies.
