Jonathan Kuminga injury update: Setback overshadows Golden State Warriors’ dominant victory over San Antonio Spurs | NBA News

The Golden State Warriors put on an offensive masterclass Sunday night, dismantling the San Antonio Spurs 148-106 in their most explosive scoring performance of the season. However, their celebration was dampened by an unfortunate injury to Jonathan Kuminga, who exited the game after suffering a setback with his right ankle—the same injury that had previously sidelined him for a significant portion of the season.
Kuminga, who had only recently returned to the lineup, lasted just six minutes on the floor before an awkward fall forced him out of the contest. As the Warriors secured their second consecutive victory, concerns loomed over the 22-year-old forward’s availability with the playoffs rapidly approaching.

With 6:59 left in the second quarter, Jonathan Kuminga attacked the basket but collided with two San Antonio Spurs defenders mid-air, leading to a hard fall on the hardwood. He remained down momentarily before heading straight to the locker room. Shortly after, the team ruled him out for the remainder of the game due to right ankle soreness. Given that the injury affected the same ankle that had previously cost him 31 games this season, the Golden State Warriors are exercising caution before determining his status moving forward.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed the media postgame, expressing his frustration over the setback. “Such a bummer, you know, [he was] just coming back, finding his rhythm, [and] playing well. So, hopefully it’s nothing too serious,” Kerr told reporters, including Sam Gordon.
Despite the injury, Kuminga remained optimistic about his condition. Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle, he reassured fans, saying, “I’m straight,” while expressing hope that he won’t miss additional time. The team will conduct further evaluations on Monday, with an update expected before their next game.
The timing of Kuminga’s injury couldn’t be worse for Golden State, who are currently sixth in the Western Conference standings with only eight games remaining in the regular season. Since returning to action on March 13, the fourth-year pro has averaged 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, proving to be a valuable asset in the Warriors’ late-season push.
For the season, Kuminga is averaging 16.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while shooting 46% from the field. His ability to contribute on both ends of the floor will be crucial as the Warriors aim to secure a strong playoff position.
Golden State’s next challenge comes on Tuesday, April 1, when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies in the fifth of their six-game road trip. The Warriors await Kuminga’s medical evaluation, which will determine whether he can rejoin the squad or if they’ll need to adjust their strategy in his absence.

For now, the team remains hopeful that the injury is minor and that Kuminga can continue helping them make a deep postseason run.
