John Metchie III has officially been traded by the Houston Texans to the Philadelphia Eagles. The deal was first reported by ESPN insider Adam Schefter on Monday, August 18, 2025. The move will send the Canadian wide receiver to the current Super Bowl champions, while the Houston Texans will receive tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick. As part of the exchange, the Philadelphia Eagles will also get a 2026 sixth-round pick from Houston. John Metchie III recorded 254 receiving yards and one touchdown last season and will now join a very strong wide receiver group in Philadelphia.

The 24-year-old Brampton native is teaming with A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson and Johnny Wilson this season, and gives quarterback Jalen Hurts another trusted option. The Houston Texans picked John Metchie III with the 44th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but his diagnosis of leukemia in July 2022 kept him from playing in his first season. In 2023 he made his much anticipated debut and ended the year with sixteen catches for 158 yards. The Canadian wide receiver improved his numbers in 2024 with 254 yards and one touchdown as part of Houston’s offense. He is now entering the final year of his four-year $8.07 million rookie contract and will look to make an immediate impact in Philadelphia.
