Four idols damaged in temples near Coimbatore | Coimbatore News


Coimbatore: Unidentified people damaged four idols at the Plague Mariamman Temple and the Sakthi Vinayagar Temple near Chinniyampalayam in Coimbatore district on Wednesday.Police said unidentified people entered the premises, where the two temples are situated late on Tuesday night. They damaged Lord Ganesh, Mushak (the chariot of Lord Ganesh), Rahu and Ketu with stones and left the place.Motorists found the damaged idols and alerted the Sulur police, who rushed to the spot and began an inquiry. The police formed a special team to nab the culprits.Meanwhile, a group of right-wing people gathered at the temple and demanded immediate action against the culprits. Senior BJP leader AP Muruganandam and party functionaries visited the temple on Wednesday afternoon. Locals also gathered there and argued with party functionaries and asked them not to politicise the issue.
