Dhubri BJP hails Union Budget as bucket of gifts for Assam

Dhubri: BJP’s Dhubri district unit on Tuesday described the recently tabled Union Budget as a “bucket full of financial gifts” for the northeast states, particularly Assam.Addressing media persons at the party office, district president Ranjit Kumar Ray, former legislator Ashwani Roy Sarkar, RK Puram legislator Arun Sharma, Minority Morcha president DK Surana, and other leaders highlighted key provisions of the budget for Assam. Speaking to TOI, Surana said the budget positions Assam as the central pillar of the “Purvoday” (Rise of the East) initiative. He said the focus has shifted from viewing the region merely through a security lens to recognizing it as a “Connector Economy” for South East Asia.Surana outlined several allocations and initiatives, including Rs 40,000 crore for semiconductor mission, manufacturing and strategic sectors, and the operationalization of 20 new national waterways within five years. He added that the budget emphasises city and regional development, infrastructure in Tier II and Tier III towns, housing, education, skills, and creative economy.Among specific allocations, Karbi Anglong will receive Rs 200 crore, Bodoland Rs 156 crore, while 4,000 electric buses are proposed for Purvoday states, with a significant share earmarked for Guwahati and other Tier II towns in Assam.Surana also highlighted the Buddhist Circuit scheme, aimed at developing and preserving Buddhist heritage sites across Assam and neighbouring states, which he said would boost international tourism.
