Jayson Tatum’s future in doubt as Celtics star details emotional battle after Achilles tear
Jayson Tatum‘s status for next season is uncertain following his severe Achilles injury in the Boston Celtics’ 2025 playoffs series with the New York Knicks. The other day, in the last minutes of an NBA playoff game, the Boston Celtics’ star player made a step forward and fell sprawled across the ground, writhing in pain, after rupturing his Achilles tendon.Speaking to People Magazine about his injury, Tatum claimed that he was distraught in the locker room with his mother, Brandy Cole, and his trainer. He then said: “I literally sat there and cried for two hours ’cause so many things ran through my mind: ‘Damn, is my career over? Am I going to get traded? Are all my partners going to drop me?’ My basketball career flashed in front of my eyes.. I’m in my prime, one of the best basketball players in the world, and it felt like it was all taken away.”He further said:“That is the million-dollar question… I think for me, and my team, the doctors, the organization, the most important thing is making a full recovery. Being back 100%. Not rushing it. But I haven’t said like, ‘Yo, I’m not playing this season,’ or anything like that.”Talking about his goal in mind, he said: “I have a goal in my mind.. What I will say is, I’m not working out, rehabbing six days a week for no reason.”However, Darren Hartwell of NBCSportsBoston.com has some news, citing Zolak & Bertrand, a Boston radio show: “The Celtics are very happy with how hard Jayson Tatum has been working at his rehab, and his level of focus and intensity in the rehab process… (Tatum) did not leave town. He has been here the entire time. … Since the injury, he has not left town and he has been inside the building at the Celtics’ facility with their people and their team almost every single day for months.”
