Brian Windhorst gives explosive remark on Kevin Durant’s future with Phoenix Suns: “They’re gonna trade him and he knows that” | NBA News

The Phoenix Suns may have kept Kevin Durant through the 2025 trade deadline, but his time in the desert is nearing its conclusion. With growing tension between the two sides and an underwhelming on-court fit with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, the franchise is expected to move on from the superstar forward this summer. According to multiple reports, including insights from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Durant is fully aware of the team’s intentions.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst has recently shared his bold prediction on veteran basketball star Kevin Durant and his team Phoenix Suns. “They’re going to trade him, and he knows that,” Windhorst said. The Suns were actively shopping Durant ahead of the deadline, exploring potential deals with teams like the Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, and Memphis Grizzlies. However, a trade never materialized, largely due to Durant’s high value and the challenge of restructuring a roster midseason to accommodate a player of his caliber.
The decision to wait until the offseason aligns with Durant’s own perspective. Speaking on The Draymond Green Show, Durant addressed the reality of being a high-cost asset, “A player like me, I cost a lot. Me going into your team in the middle of the season is going to be a big blow to any team I’m going to.” Given the complexity of moving a player with a four-year, $194 million contract, it makes strategic sense for Phoenix to wait until the summer when teams have more flexibility to construct a blockbuster deal.
Durant’s tenure with the Suns started with high expectations following his trade from the Brooklyn Nets in 2023. However, despite having a star-studded trio alongside Booker and Beal, the team has failed to live up to championship hopes. With Phoenix struggling to establish themselves as true contenders.
Windhorst added that the Suns’ are looking for a long-term solution. “The only way to begin a pivot out of this team that has failed is to trade Kevin Durant.”
While Jay Williams of ESPN believes the odds of Durant leaving are slim, most insiders anticipate a move. The Suns’ front office is reportedly considering their next steps, balancing their short-term goal of making the Play-In Tournament with their long-term vision of restructuring the roster.

Is Durant’s reported situation heading towards the same direction as Jimmy Butler? Miami Heat finally traded Butler to the Golden State Warriors in a blockbuster deal just ahead of the trade deadline. However, the rift between him and Heat has been carved as one of the most intense rivalries. Regardless, Butler found his rhythm. As for KD, he has been a standout star of the organization, or better, the league. The 15-time NBA All-Star is currently averaging 26.9 points per game, 6.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
