Bomb threat at Nagpur airport: Morning email triggers panic; no explosives found | Nagpur News

NAGPUR: A bomb threat received via email on Tuesday morning sent security forces into action at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport. The email, which arrived around 6.30am, claimed an IED (improvised explosive device) had been placed at the airport disguised as a cigarette packet.The email was first received by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which promptly forwarded it to Nagpur airport officials. Following protocol, all key stakeholders were alerted and emergency response teams were mobilized immediately, said a senior airport authority.Sonegaon Police Station, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), CISF and a dog squad, conducted a detailed search operation that lasted nearly four hours. However, no suspicious objects or devices were found, officials said.“There was no explosive found at the airport. We followed standard operating procedures. The alert was taken seriously, and all necessary units responded swiftly,” confirmed Sonegaon Police Inspector Nitin Magar, adding that a case will be registered in the matter.Sources stated that while the threat caused a brief moment of concern, flight operations remained mostly unaffected. A senior official said that there were no major delays or disruptions to flights.Police officials emphasized that the email was specifically directed toward the Nagpur airport, unlike previous hoax threats which were sent to multiple airports nationwide last year. The investigation is ongoing to trace the origin of the message and identify those responsible.Even last year, Nagpur airport was targeted in a similar manner as in a span of just three months Nagpur airport had received four bomb threat emails. The first three came on April 29, June 18, and June 24, and were part of a series of threats sent to multiple airports across the country. However, on June 25, a fourth email was received, specifically addressed to the senior director of Nagpur airport. The June 24 and 25 emails came just a day apart, raising concern over repeated hoax threats targeting the same location in quick succession.
