NEW DELHI: An 8-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death by two fellow students, both minors, after a quarrel at a government-aided residential school in Maharashtra’s Jalna district, police said on Wednesday. Two boys, aged 8 and 14, have been detained in connection with the murder, they added. The incident took place at an English-medium residential school for tribal children in Bhokardan tehsil. “An altercation broke out between the victim and two other minors, aged 8 and 14. The two allegedly strangled the victim with a rope while he was asleep. We have detained the juveniles involved and an investigation is underway,” said District Superintendent of Police Ajaykumar Bansal. According to police, the three boys had a fight over a minor issue on Monday evening. Later that night, the victim had dinner and went to sleep in the school dormitory. “Seizing the opportunity, the accused minors allegedly strangled him with a rope,” said another official. On Tuesday morning, when the boy did not wake up, school staff rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Doctors found strangulation marks on his neck, confirming foul play, the officer said. Police said a probe into the incident is currently underway.
