5 SKINCARE TIPS TO BEAT THE HEAT IN 2022

With summer approaching, concerns are rising about skin. It was only last year, that people realized the importance of self-care.  This means focus has shifted towards skincare.

We have started to look within ourselves in various ways- be it less make-up or taking care of our body.

Last year’s medical advances have made us more aware about evidence based skincare. We have started looking into studies and clinical trials brands are doing. Skincare consumers are curious about science behind ingredients. Retinol and niacinamide acid might be top searched ingredients as they are known to deliver results.

Summers are loved by many; but it can be a challenging one too. We are under scorching sun, UV A&B rays causing damage to the skin and constantly sweating. Due to which, acne pops out more often. Here’s a simple skincare routine for beating the summer that you can follow :-

1) Cleanse and cleanse :-

The warm and humid climate makes your skin sweat, where dusts and pollution settle. The dead skin cells tend to clog the pores. So, what you can do is make sure you cleanse your face twice a day.

Always note to cleanse your face with water in the morning and with face cleanser in the night, before bed. This way you’re not stripping your face of it’s oil. For those with oily skin, you can cleanse twice with a face cleanser, in the morning and night, before hitting the pillow.

2) Exfoliate :-

Exfoliation removes the dead skin layers. Removal of these layers brings out the healthy and glowing inner layer. It not only removes dead skin cells , but also surface pollutants and dirt. Don’t worry your skin produces at a much faster pace than you can imagine!

However, make sure not to over-exfoliate as it may result in damaged skin. Exfoliating once or twice a week will do the required. Whenever you do so, make sure to extend up till your neck. Your neck deserves some love and attention too!

3) Moisturize :-

During summers, your skin is already dipped in oil. So, a mild, water-based moisturizer will do the work. On days when you exfoliate, prefer a moisturizer with ceramides and hyaluronic acid. These compounds seal the moisture on your skin, giving you glowing skin.

Moisturizing is important, even if you’ve oily skin. It was recently that the myth; only dry skin require moisturizer, was broken. With the upsurge of internet, people started to educate themselves.

4) Apply sunscreen :-

When you step outside to enjoy in the sun, never forget to apply a broad spectrum SPF. Take at least 50 SPF to protect your skin. Apply the sunscreen 15 minutes before going out.

The sunscreen protects from UV A&B rays. UV A rays penetrate more deep into the skin layers, initiating premature ageing. While UV B rays causes sunburn.

The type of sunscreen runs down to personal preferences. SPF consists of  chemical and physical blockers. Mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide and titanium oxide are physical blockers. Chemical sunscreen have avobenzone, octinoxate and oxybenzone.

Oh! Don’t forget to put some on your lips, ears and neck too.

5) Always carry physical blockers :-

While heading outside, carry your hat, cap or sunglasses. These physical blockers will prevent the UV rays from reaching your skin. It’s summers but protective clothing are your friends.

If possible, avoid the sun from 9 AM to 3 PM. During these periods, the rays are more penetrating and directly falls on your skin. This damages your skin the most.

I know I told only 5 tips. But here’s one last tip to keep in mind specially during summers.

6) Antioxidants:-

Anti-oxidants cancels our the oxidative species like free radicals. Free radicals are harmful as they cause ageing of the skin. Vitamin C is a potent anti-oxidant. It is available in many forms- serum, cream, face cleanser, mask. But I feel serum is the best form.

Vitamin C speeds up collagen production, so that your skin can repair at a faster rate. Good amount of anti-oxidants are also present in green leafy vegetables and citrus fruits.

With summers round the corner, hydrate yourself with enough water, fruit juices and smoothies. Dehydration in the body will cause the water in outer skin layers to move inside. This will result in formation of early signs of ageing.

Skin care isn’t some tailor-cut thing. You have to experiment what works best for you and what doesn’t. It is as important to know what to avoid as it is to know what to apply on your skin.

Above tips will give best results, if followed in the night too. When you sleep your skin repairs and removes toxins by itself. It won’t do so, if you don not cleanse the dirt out. Taking care of yourself is a must. It relaxes your mind and soul. When the glow is from within, that’s self-care. Happy Summer, buddies!
