When Hrithik Roshan revealed how Kader Khan made his life hell: ‘He told my father, if your son wants to go…’ |

Hrithik Roshan, known for his looks and dance, impressed audiences with his debut in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. Before that, he had brief film appearances and always aspired to act. He later showcased versatility in films like Koi Mil Gaya and Dhoom 2. However, Rakesh Roshan had warned him before entering Bollywood.
Rakesh Roshan, having faced struggles as an actor, didn’t want Hrithik to go through the same. He advised him to have a backup career if acting didn’t work. In a past interview with Anupama Chopra on Masterclass, Hrithik shared that he even considered studying special effects.
During the interview, when asked Hrithik about his backup career plans, he revealed how veteran actor Kader Khan played a key role in shaping his path. Hrithik recalled that his father, aware of the struggles in the industry, insisted he have an alternative career. Kader Khan then advised Rakesh Roshan to enroll Hrithik in Bhagubhai Polytechnic College if he wanted to pursue special effects, making the experience quite challenging for him.
Hrithik further shared that his father insisted he join Bhagubhai Polytechnic, following Kader Khan’s advice. He humorously recalled his reaction, questioning what Bhagubhai was. Rakesh explained that the college would equip him with technical skills, like fixing air conditioners and refrigerators, ensuring he had a backup career.
Despite Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai making Hrithik an overnight star, he soon faced setbacks with a series of flops. This phase deeply affected him. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ameesha Patel revealed that Hrithik was visibly disturbed during this challenging time.
Ameesha recalled a conversation with Hrithik during his struggling phase. He expressed his frustration over delivering back-to-back flops while she had another blockbuster with Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. She reassured him, saying that ups and downs are part of the industry and that things would eventually change in his favour.
Hrithik Roshan shared in a BBC interview that his father, Rakesh Roshan, took a major financial risk to launch him. With Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai costing nearly Rs. 3 crore, their house and car were mortgaged. A similar gamble was taken for Khudgarz, Rakesh’s first in-house production, and both paid off successfully.
