Rakesh Roshan recalls working out in gym with Hrithik Roshan on morning of cancer surgery: ‘Then I went to hospital’ |

Rakesh Roshan recently opened up about his cancer diagnosis in 2018. The actor-director shared that he was working out with his son-actor Hrithik Roshan on the morning of his surgery day.
Speaking to News18, Rakesh initially didn’t take it seriously, even when he was shot, joking to keep things light. He had the same approach when diagnosed with cancer. On the morning of his surgery, he and Hrithik Roshan still worked out, maintaining a positive outlook despite the situation.
Rakesh further shared that he worked out for an hour before heading to the hospital for surgery. The procedure took place at 1 PM, and by 4 PM, he was in his room. By 5 PM, he was already walking. He believes mental strength helps overcome hardships.
He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2018. In a 2019 interview with SpotBoye, he recalled having a gut feeling about it. He was at Hrithik’s home when he received the biopsy results on December 15. He felt scared when doctors mentioned possible tongue surgery and grafting.
In the Netflix India docuseries The Roshans, Hrithik recalled his father’s shooting incident. He never felt afraid because Rakesh seemed like a superhero. Even in the hospital, despite seeing blood on the sheets, fear lasted only a moment as his father was soon talking, laughing, and handling everything confidently.
Rakesh was shot a week after Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai released, which he directed for Hrithik’s debut. Two men linked to the Mumbai underworld attacked him, leaving him seriously injured.
