Amid the Ranveer Allahbadia controversy, Maharashtra Cyber Police have filed an FIR against multiple YouTubers and social media influencers who took part in the India’s Got Latent show, hosted by comedian Samay Raina, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Officials confirmed that the FIR has been registered against over 30 individuals who participated in the show. The case involves allegations related to inappropriate content, the officials said.
The Maharashtra Cyber Police have asked YouTube to delete all videos linked to the show, according to officials.The Maharashtra Women’s Commission has urged the Mumbai Police Commissioner to file a case against Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva, and others. They have also requested action to ban the show.
The Commission claims the show included insensitive remarks that demeaned and humiliated women. It has called for appropriate action to ban the program.
Maharashtra Women’s Commission Chairperson Roopali Chakankar submitted the letter to the Police Commissioner, requesting action against the show.
Ranveer Allahbadia on Monday said that he was sorry after being widely criticised for his words on a show.
In a video message, Ranveer Allahbadia said, “Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform. Obviously, this is not how I wish to use my platform. I am not going to give any context, justification or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just here for an apology. I, personally, had a lapse in judgement. It wasn’t cool on my part.”
The YouTuber further addressed the controversy, admitting that comedy isn’t his strength and apologizing for any offense caused. Acknowledging his responsibility as an influencer, he emphasized his respect for family values and pledged to use his platform more responsibly. He also requested the removal of insensitive content from the video.
