Delhi HC rejects Rajpal Yadav's plea seeking more time in the cheque bounce case: 'He has not complied'

On February 2, the Delhi High Court had ordered Rajpal Yadav to appear before prison authorities on February 4 for Rs 9 crore dues in the cheque bounce case. However, on Wednesday, the actor has asked for more time in order to arrange Rs 50 lakh, as per the court’s order. The Delhi High Court commented that although Yadav is committed to return the complainant the said amount of money, he did not comply with the tribunal’s direction. However, after the order was passed, the actor moved a plea seeking more time, citing the need to arrange ₹50 lakh. The court, however, dismissed his request. When Yadav was again instructed to surrender by Wednesday, his counsel sought an additional week to arrange the funds. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, as quoted by Hindustan Times, made it clear that no further indulgence would be granted, stating, “I rejected these submissions on that day itself and granted you two more days to surrender. I don’t think there is any ground. You were to surrender on a particular day but you were granted two days because you said you were in Bombay. Today you have to surrender at 4 o’clock.”The court also took strong note of the actor’s repeated non-compliance with its directions. Observing a consistent pattern, it remarked, “This he has done at least 15-20 times in the past. His conduct has been mentioned in the last order. He has not complied with any order, any undertaking… I don’t think there is any ground for him for any leniency any more.”The directive comes in the wake of Yadav’s continued failure to honour settlement terms in a prolonged cheque-bounce case. The High Court pointed out that despite multiple opportunities and clearly defined payment schedules, the actor did not deposit sums amounting to several crores. Even partial payments, which were to be made through demand drafts and instalments, were not cleared within the prescribed timelines. So far, neither Rajpal Yadav nor his lawyers have released an official statement responding to the latest development.Over the years, Rajpal Yadav is known for delivering some memorable movies and performances. The actor is remembered for movies like ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, ‘Dhol’, ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon’ among others.
