Dwyane Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union, is not only a popular name in Hollywood but also one of the bravest souls in the entertainment industry. The Bring It On star recently reflected on being a rape survivor during an appearance on Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky. In between the conversation with Lewinsky, Gabrielle Union even revealed how she has never felt like a victim in these years, which played a crucial role in her survival.

NBA icon Dwyane Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union, revealed that she was raped at gunpoint at the age of 19 in her memoir, We’re Going To Need More Wine. Since then she has never shied away from expressing her vulnerable side in front of the camera to spread awareness about rape. Recently, Gabrielle Union appeared for an interview with Monica Lewinsky. During the conversation with the show host, Union even shed some light on how rape survivors are seen as victims by the society. While addressing the double standards of the society, she said,

“As it comes in and out of the public consciousness, it’s always a surprise because they’ve decided what victims look like. Yeah. and I don’t fit handily into a victim box. And I’m like, Girl, I am in a massive box. You have no idea. Yeah, like, you know, and I try to be. I will try to talk about the journey to being a survivor.”Gabrielle Union further elaborated, “But there are many days I’m in a victim space, and I can’t advocate for myself, much less anyone else, and on those days I look to other people to lead and other people to give me the inspiration that I hope I give, you know, to someone.”The Hollywood star has openly spoken about her experience to raise awareness and extend her support to other sexual assault victims. This is not the first time Gabrielle Union has publicly spoken about her experiences, as previously, she has mentioned it on social media too. Reportedly, back in 2022, she posted about her journey as a rape survivor in an elaborate Instagram post. She welcomed a daughter via surrogacy in 2017 with Dwyane Wade.
