‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, released in 1989, was directed by Sooraj Barjatya and featured Bhagyashree as the female lead. While shooting the popular song ‘Kabootar Ja Ja Ja’, Salman had an unexpected and deeply emotional moment that changed everything for him.
He finally saw himself as a hero
In a heartfelt interview with Hello! Indo-Arabia, Salman shared, “I was about 18 years old, and there was a truly memorable moment during the shoot for the song Kabootar Ja Ja Ja when I suddenly knew that this was the role for me. During several narrations, I’d imagine Jackie Shroff or Anil Kapoor in those roles, but I could never actually see myself doing big films. That moment was the first time I really felt, ‘Yes, I can do this’. I had tears in my eyes.”
A letter straight from the heart
After the film’s grand success, Salman reached out to his fans through an open letter. In it, he thanked them for accepting him with open arms and spoke about how he was now choosing his projects with greater responsibility.“Here is a little something I want you guys to know about me. Firstly, I have to thank you for accepting me and for being my fans. I am doing and concentrating on good scripts to the best of my judgement, because I know that whatever I do now will be compared to Maine Pyaar Kiya. So whenever you hear an announcement, rest assured that it is going to be a good film, and I am going to give it my 100 per cent. I love you and I hope that you will keep on loving me because the day you stop loving me, you’ll stop seeing my films and that is the end of my career. Remember, you are the people who make people like us.”

Since that emotional moment on the set of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, Salman Khan has never looked back.
