Tragic High-Speed Crash Claims Lives of Two Police Officers and a Civilian in Chandigarh | Chandigarh News

CHANDIGARH: Two cops and a civilian were killed after a high-speed Volkswagen Polo car mowed them down at a police check post in the early hours of the Holi festival at the Chandigarh-Zirakpur barrier.
The accused car driver and his friends were also injured in the accident and were admitted to the hospital for treatment. Police also claimed to have found liquor bottles and packets of snacks in the accused’s car.
The deceased include Chandigarh police constable Sukhdarshan, Home Guard Volunteer Rajesh, and a civilian.
Upon receiving the information, Chandigarh Police DGP Surendra Singh Yadav and SSP UT Kanwardeep Kaur personally visited the scene to assess the situation. Based on CCTV footage, the Sector-31 police registered a case against the driver and filed a case against him at Sector 31 police station.
Constable Sukhdarshan and Home Guard Volunteer Rajesh, posted at the Sector-31 police station, were checking a white Maruti Suzuki Baleno car-CH01BL4496 during their night Naka duty. The person driving the car was also standing near the car while police officials were checking his documents. In the meantime, 3-4 people driving a brown Volkswagen Polo car-PB03AR6024 came at very high speed from the Zirakpur side and hit them.
All three, Sukhdarshan, Rajesh, and a civilian (car driver), died on the spot. According to information from the in-charge of Naka, ASI Satnam Singh, the occupants of the Polo car were also injured in the accident. They were sent to a private hospital in a private car and ambulance passing nearby, and the dead bodies were kept at the mortuary in GMCH-32 for autopsy. Police said bottles of liquor and packets of snacks were recovered from the Polo car.
Upon receiving the information, senior police officials DGP, SSP, and SPs reached the spot and gathered information about the incident from their subordinates.
