The Taliban has released an American citizen, Faye Hall, who was detained earlier this year alongside two British nationals and their Afghan interpreter, according to former US envoy to Kabul Zalmay Khalilzad. He announced this on Saturday.
“American citizen Faye Hall, just released by the Taliban, is now in the care of our friends, the Qataris in Kabul, and will soon be on her way home,” stated Khalilzad on X, who has been involved in negotiating Taliban hostage releases.

Who is Faye Hall?

Hall was apprehended in February while travelling with Peter and Barbie Reynolds, both in their seventies, to the British couple’s residence in Bamiyan province.
Earlier this month, Khalilzad visited Kabul with US hostage envoy Adam Boehler for discussions with Taliban authorities, a rare occurrence for US officials.
Subsequently, the Taliban administration announced the release of US national George Glezmann after over two years in detention, through Qatari mediation.
Glezmann and Hall are amongst several Americans released from Taliban custody this year. Two Americans, Ryan Corbett and William McKenty, were released in January in exchange for Khan Mohammed, an Afghan fighter convicted of narco-terrorism in the US.
Mahmood Habibi remains the sole known American still in Taliban detention. The Reynolds couple continue to be held by the Taliban.
‘Thank you for bringing me home’
Faye Hall appeared in a video shared by Trump on Truth Social on Saturday, where she thanked him for her safe return home.”Thank you for bringing me home,” Hall said in the video, smiling and appearing to be in good health.
She also spoke about the plight of Afghan women in Taliban jails, saying, “All the women in the Afghan jail, they always ask me, ‘When is Trump coming?’ They truly treat you like their savior. They’re waiting for you to come and set them free.”
In another video, posted by the White House, Hall was heard speaking, “”I’m glad you’re the President, and thank you for bringing me home. I have never been so proud to be an American citizen. Thank you, Mr. President.”
