Watch: Donald Trump mocks reporter, says he thought his outlet had ‘died’
US President Donald Trump dismissed a HuffPost reporter’s question on Sunday, instead taking a jab at the outlet by suggesting he thought it had shut down.
The exchange took place aboard Air Force One as Trump travelled to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX.
While Trump was interacting with the press, HuffPost senior White House correspondent SV Dáte asked about a controversial remark made by Vice President JD Vance.
“The vice president suggested that if the Supreme Court rules in a way that you don’t like, they could just enforce it by themselves. Do you agree with that?” the reporter asked.
Trump brushed off the question, responding, “I don’t know even what you’re talking about. Neither do you. Who are you with?”
When Dáte identified himself as a HuffPost reporter, Trump quipped, “Oh, no wonder. I thought they died. Are they still around? I haven’t read them in years. I thought they died.”
Trump then moved on to other questions, ignoring the original inquiry regarding Vance’s comments.
The question referred to a statement Vance made on social media regarding a recent court ruling that blocked Elon Musk’s department of government efficiency (DOGE) from accessing US treasury department payment systems. Vance argued that federal judges should not have the authority to override the executive branch’s power.
“If a judge tried to tell a general how to conduct a military operation, that would be illegal. If a judge tried to command the attorney general in how to use her discretion as a prosecutor, that’s also illegal. Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power,” Vance posted.
Trump did not comment on Vance’s statement, instead taking the opportunity to mock HuffPost.
