Lara Trump interview: Does Elon Musk regret supporting Donald Trump? Check out his answer

Elon Musk found himself in an awkward moment on national camera when Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of US President Donald Trump, asked him a pointed question, “Do you regret coming out in support of President Trump?”
The Tesla CEO and outgoing head of the Department of Government Efficiency initially answered “Yes,” then quickly changed his tone, backpedaling with a laugh and a plea to “cut that part.” The clip, a teaser from Lara’s interview series My View with Lara Trump, instantly went viral on Saturday.
“I was just trying to be funny,” Musk, 58, insisted after Lara, 42, chuckled and said, “I hope not.” Musk then doubled down on his Trump loyalty, saying, “It was essential for President Trump to win, for America to remain great.”
Musk went on to recite key Trump campaign points: border security, public safety, and fiscal restraint. “If President Trump had not won, the Democrat campaign to import illegal voters would have succeeded,” Musk claimed, warning that Kamala Harris would have led the US into a “one-party state.”
The interview also resurfaced Musk’s recent break from Trump on trade tariffs. Speaking to Italy’s Matteo Salvini last month, Musk said he preferred a “zero tariff situation” and more freedom of movement between North America and Europe—advice he says he’s given directly to Trump.
Still, Musk described Trump as a “friend” and claimed they agree on “80 percent” of issues. But his White House future remains uncertain, with his term as DOGE head ending May 30.
Adding to the drama, Musk addressed viral claims he made a Nazi-style salute during Trump’s post-inauguration event. “It was a loving gesture,” he said, blaming media “character assassination” and adding, “If they could press a button and kill me, they would.”
