‘Endless H-1B stamping cycles’: Reddit user wants to move to India after 15 years
While US tech workers are raging against H-1B visa holders for stealing their jobs, a Reddit post of a H-1B visa holder has grabbed the attention as the person sought advice on moving back to India — after 15 years. The person came to the US as a student and then started working but now after 15 years, the user feels tired of restrictions. The restrictions that come being an H-1B visa holder. “Can’t go anywhere, can’t start my business,” the Reddit post read. “The title and I want to work as a Product Manager. Do you think there will be problem in getting jobs in India? Backstory- I 37F, came to the US as a student in 2010, right after engineering. Started working in 2012 and ever since then I have been employed as a technology consultant. Now I am tired of the restrictions. Endless H1B stamping cycles. Can’t go anywhere, can’t start my own businesses. I want to explore what India can offer but I also want to work as a Product Manger. Will there be problem in finding jobs and starting my own small business?” the post said.
A Reddit user expressed desire to move back to India after spending 15 years in the US.
The comment section was mostly welcoming as people shared their experience of moving back to India almost for the same reason. “I came back a few months ago after 10 years, for similar reasons as yours. Trying to start my own business. I miss many things about US and dislike many things about here, but being able to explore business ideas of my own, and not having to worry about the visa bs far outweighs the negatives. So far anyways,” one wrote.“My dad’s friend did this and he is incredibly happy with his decision. He not only does well but every so often will pick up contract jobs that helps build investment money for his true passion,” another reply said. H-1B has become a contentious issue with MAGA activists wanting the Donald Trump administration to completely shut the program in favor of American workers. The administration has taken crucial steps to arrest the inflow of international students but has not made a stand on H-1B. This visa program majoly contributes to the Silicon Valley as tech companies hire from foreign countries to save money.
