Yash’s ‘Toxic’ teaser: Geetu Mohandas faces backlash; Mammootty’s ‘Kasaba’ controversy returns | Malayalam Movie News
On Yash’s birthday, the makers of ‘Toxic’ shared a special teaser for the film. ‘Toxic’ is directed by Geetu Mohandas. Soon after the teaser dropped, many people began talking about one intimate scene shown in it. A section of viewers felt the scene showed peak objectification of a woman. The visuals quickly spread online. With that, criticism also started spreading just as fast. What shocked many was that the teaser came from a filmmaker who earlier spoke strongly against objectifying women in cinema.
Geetu Mohandas’ note for Yash
On the same day, Geetu Mohandas shared a long and emotional note for Yash on her Facebook handle. She wrote, “A rare fusion of talent and superstardom is a formidable combination . I am immensely proud of Yash, not just for the performance of Raya the world is yet to witness, but for the discipline, and heart he brought to our film every single day. This is not just a role he performed, it is a chapter he carved into his own artistic legacy.” She also wrote, “He questioned, challenged, explored, and surrendered , always in service of the story when truth meets art.” She praised him as a producer and added, “In the whirlwind of his fame, it’s easy to overlook the depth beneath the surface.” She ended the note by saying, “I feel grateful for the trust, artistry and above all the friendship we share .He will stay with me long after the cameras stops rolling. Happy birthday Yash .”
Mixed and strong reactions in comments
The post soon filled with comments from all sides. One person wrote, “WCC ഉറങ്ങുകയാണ് ജനങ്ങളെ…. എണീറ്റാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ ഈ സിനിമ ബഹിഷ്കരിക്കും” which means “WCC is sleeping guys. Once they wake up, they will ban the movie.”

There were also supportive comments. One comment read, “Dear Geethu chechi… The kind of courage you have shown through Toxic is something no man or woman in India has dared to show before. The negative comments you are hearing are only because people like you, who cannot see cinema just as cinema, still exist. Resign from WCC. Come among the public. Leave all politics. Those who see cinema as cinema will stand with you.“

Another user wrote, “Two worlds that were never meant to meet—yet cinema makes them collide.” One harsh comment said, “KGF, Pushpa, Animal, Marco to Toxic — a steady evolution of noise, narcissism, and nonsense.” Support also came in, with one saying, “Proudly hats off you dear geethu mohan das… Regarding toxic will win in your film career.. Am waiting…”Another one wrote, “Rajan Scaria was decent,” this is in reference to Mammootty’s ‘Kasaba’ character.
Old Kasaba issue comes back again
With ‘Toxic’ teaser out, an old issue has returned loudly. Years ago, Geetu Mohandas and Parvathy Thiruvothu criticised a scene from Mammootty’s ‘Kasaba’. The scene showed Mammootty’s dark character grabbing a woman police officer by her belt. At that time, Kasaba director Nithin Renji Panicker faced backlash. Many supported Geetu, while others said she ignored the fact that Mammootty played a negative role. Now, with Toxic, the same debate is back.
