Actor Karunakaran, admired for his effortless comic timing and heartfelt performances in supporting roles, has long been a familiar face in Tamil cinema. From ‘Kalakalappu’ to ‘Soodhu Kavvum,’ his presence has always added warmth and humor to the screen. Recently, Karunakaran opened up about a lesser-known side of his journey with his friend Vishnu Vishal. The duo, who previously collaborated on ‘Indru Netru Naalai,’ ‘Ratsasan,’ and ‘Oho Enthan Baby,’ share a bond that goes far beyond films.
Karunakaran about his ups and downs
Karunakaran spoke honestly about the ups and downs rhythm of his acting career. He recalled how his early years brought back-to-back successes, giving him the confidence that his path in cinema was set. During the pre-release event of ‘Aaryan,’ “My first film was Kalakalappu. Then came Pizza, Soodhu Kavvum, Jigarthanda, Indru Netru Naalai, and more. All of them were hits, and I thought this is how cinema would be. Only later, I witnessed the lows in my career. Vishnu has seen all of it. In fact, at many moments in my career, I have contemplated quitting the industry,” he shared.
Vishnu Vishal’s advice
At his lowest point, Karunakaran found strength in Vishnu Vishal’s friendship. The actor revealed how Vishnu’s encouragement helped him see his worth again. “He told me that this is how a cinema career would be, noting how I have to see it all. Vishnu also patted my back, telling me that I was a good artist. He also made me act in a few films that he backed, which include the upcoming Gatta Kusthi 2 and another film, which helped me restart my engine,” Karunakaran said, his voice filled with gratitude.
