Tagore to Burman: Srabani Sen, Shovon Ganguly weave a night of classics | Bengali Movie News

The Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Berhampore, came together for a pre-centenary celebration this April — an event that touched upon academics, alumni engagement, and future plans. The evening was filled with cultural programmes that truly stood out—transforming the meet into a heartfelt tribute to Bengal’s rich musical legacy.
Headlining the evening was singer Shovon Ganguly, whose repertoire paid homage to some of Bengal’s most iconic composers and playback legends. From Sachin Dev Burman and R.D. Burman to Salil Chowdhury, Manna Dey, and Manabendra Mukhopadhyay, his set was a walk through decades of timeless melodies. Each song landed with familiar warmth, and by the end of his performance, many in the audience were humming along—some even dancing, lost in memories of youth and the music that once played from shared hostel radios.
Earlier in the evening, the stage belonged to dancer and choreographer Rudrabha Niyogi and his team, who presented a moving tribute to Salil Chowdhury on his birth centenary. The group performed to classics like Dhitang Dhitang Bole, De Dol Dol, Pothe Ebar Namo, and Sathi, weaving together storytelling and movement with quiet elegance.

Sagnik Sen, known for his vocal resemblance to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, offered a set of songs that drew the audience into a time gone by. His renditions, steeped in nostalgia, were met with appreciative smiles and quiet applause from listeners across generations.
Shirin Soraiya presented Rabindrasangeet in a contemporary voice—reimagining Tagore’s work without straying too far from its soul. Her performance added a gentle, introspective note to the evening’s flow.

Noted Rabindrasangeet artiste Srabani Sen—also the brand ambassador for the meet—took the stage with her students. Together, they delivered a performance rooted in tradition and shared growth, closing the cultural segment on a graceful note.
The evening was anchored by Sujoyneel, who guided the transitions with warmth and ease, keeping the audience engaged throughout.
