Ajay Devgn‘s much-awaited comedy-drama ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ finally hit cinemas on 1 August 2025 after facing several delays. A sequel to the 2012 hit ‘Son of Sardaar’, this instalment sees Devgn reprise his role as Jassi Randhawa in a new, love-fuelled adventure. Modest start but fails to be ‘Raid 2’
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ collected approximately Rs 6.75 crore on its first day. While the numbers aren’t bad, they’re not record-breaking either, especially when compared to Ajay Devgn’s earlier 2025 release, ‘Raid 2’, which made a much stronger Rs 19.25 crore on its opening day.
Occupancy on day 1
The occupancy rate for shows across India on the opening Friday was 22.56%, with night shows witnessing the highest turnout at 40.27%. Morning shows recorded just 10.24%, while the afternoon and evening shows managed 17.88% and 21.84%, respectively.
‘Son of Sardaar 2’ vs ‘Dhadak 2 ’
The film faced strong competition on its opening day from another big release—Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s ‘Dhadak 2’. While the romantic drama collected Rs 3.35 crore on Day 1, Ajay Devgn’s comedy came out on top with Rs 6.75 crore.

In ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, Ajay Devgn is joined by Mrunal Thakur, who plays Rabia. This marks her first film with Ajay, and fans are already enjoying their on-screen chemistry. ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ received 3 stars from The Times of India. The review describes the film as a slapstick comedy with a thin plot, but filled with hilarious moments, especially in the first half, “The slapstick comedy written by Jagdeep Singh Sidhu and Mohit Jain is a standalone sequel to 2012’s Son of Sardaar. The storyline maybe thin, but Jassi juggling the dual act of being a war hero and Rabia’s husband doubles the chaos. India-Pakistan rivalry jokes and one-liners will keep you in splits, along with Tony and Titu trying to expose Jassi. The first half has some entertaining moments; one of them being Raja, Tony, and Titu visiting the family to finalise the wedding, where Jassi recreates the scene from Border and plays all three parts originally portrayed by Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, and Jackie Shroff.”The review also points out that the second half becomes crowded with too many characters and comic tracks, “However, as the story progresses, the plot becomes tangled and overstuffed with characters and comic tracks, though it does manages to deliver hilarity regularly. Some of the comedy misses the mark, like Jassi watching Raja’s aged Russian stepmom pole dance. Routine song-and-dance sequences further drag on without advancing the plot. The climax is convoluted, predictable, and over‑dramatised.”
