Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ Hindi version continues its impressive box office journey, surpassing Rs 200 crore and outperforming major hits like ‘Good Newwz’ and ‘Golmaal Again’. Despite its strong theatrical run and potential to become the year’s biggest hit, the film’s sudden OTT release on October 31st has surprised many, especially given its robust performance.

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 continues its steady run at the box office as its Hindi version strides ahead after crossing the Rs 200 crore mark. Its Hindi collection now stands at Rs 206.41 crore at the end of 26 days while its overall collection is at Rs 592.52 crore.On the 26 th day of its release the film’s Hindi version added Rs 1.56 crore to its total and with that the film has now gone beyond the lifetime collection of Akshay Kumar’s Good Newwz and Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal Again. Kantara 2 has not only left behind Akshay Kumar’s ‘Good Newwz’ and Ajay Devgn’s ‘Golmaal Again’ which in their lifetime collection had collected Rs Rs 205.09 crore and Rs 205.69 crore respectively. With that in just one day Kantara 2 has jumped from 43rd spot to 41st rank on the list of biggest hits of Hindi cinema.

Since the film was just in its fourth week, many were expecting the film to hold off its OTT release for a few more weeks. But suddenly on Monday evening the news broke that on 31st October- the film will be available on streaming platforms. It was a very surprising move as the film is very close to becoming the biggest hit of the year by displacing Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava from the top spot with a collection of over Rs 601 crore. Also the film had the potential to even touch a lifetime collection of Rs 625 crore and more. In fact many distributors looking at the response to Diwali releases like Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat had increased the showcasing for Kantara 2 from Monday onwards. The move was extremely surprising as Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra – highest grossing Malayalam film of all times was in cinemas for more than 7 weeks before its OTT release was announced, while the norm was 4 weeks. And its collection was 1/4th of Kantara 2’s collection.
