Nearly two decades after the original 2006 cult classic won hearts, Ranvir Shorey is officially reuniting with the Khosla family for the much-anticipated sequel, ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla 2’. Shorey, who portrays the volatile yet endearing Balwant “Bunty” Khosla, recently shared that his participation was contingent on the return of the original “pillars” of the franchise, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani.

‘Khosla Ka Ghosla 2’ and loyalty to the original cast

Ranvir is currently filming ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla 2’ and admits he agreed to the sequel only after confirming that Anupam Kher and Boman Irani were returning. Calling them the backbone of the franchise, he explained to Mid Day, “I didn’t want to be the reason the Khosla family couldn’t get back together,” highlighting how important the original ensemble was to him.

But it’s one life, bro; I do not want to be boxed up. I don’t want to toe the line. I don’t want to live a life where I feel like my opinions have to lick somebody’s feet.Having started out in television before moving into films and OTT platforms, Ranvir acknowledges how drastically the industry has evolved. “I think there are far more opportunities today in the world of filmmaking. And the flip side to that is that there is far more competition also,” he says, reflecting on the shifting dynamics of casting and content creation.

Though widely loved for his comic timing, Ranvir believes meaningful writing and strong storytelling matter more than ever in today’s content-heavy landscape. Commenting on the struggles behind the scenes, he said, “People don’t realise how much goes on behind the scenes. What actors, directors, and writers struggle with, you cannot imagine. The kind of egos you have to deal with just to be able to do the kind of work you want to do,” signing off on a note that reflects both realism and resilience.
