YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as “BeerBiceps,” has found himself in the middle of a controversy after making a highly inappropriate remark on comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent. The remark, which quickly went viral, has sparked outrage among netizens and even drawn criticism from political figures.
The controversial comment that started it all
During the latest episode of India’s Got Latent, which featured content creators like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija (The Rebel Kid), Ranveer Allahbadia posed a shocking question to a contestant:
“Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”
The statement, met with loud reactions from those present, quickly spread across social media. Many users condemned the remark for being vulgar and inappropriate, questioning the state of content creation in India. Some defended the show’s format, arguing it was meant to be edgy, while others insisted such content crosses ethical boundaries.
Political leaders react
The controversy escalated further when Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was asked about it. While he admitted he had not personally watched the video, he acknowledged the gravity of the situation.
“I have been informed about this, though I have not watched it yet. I came to know that it was very vulgar and this was wrong. Everyone has freedom of speech, but this freedom ends when we encroach upon others’ freedom. Everyone has limits, and if anyone crosses them, action will be taken,” he told reporters, according to NDTV.
Digital creator Aashish Chandorkar also criticized the incident, Tweeting, “Decency is not incentivized in India, by platforms or audiences, and creators are stooping lower and lower for audience reach and revenue. Banal, crass, and insensitive are words only for boring uncool people. These creators can say anything in the name of freedom of speech and get away with it.”
Public backlash
The backlash was not limited to politicians and public figures. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also weighed in, condemning both Allahbadia’s remark and the audience’s reaction to it.
“It’s pervert. And we can’t normalize perverse behavior as cool. The fact that this sick comment met loud applause must worry us all,” she wrote on social media.
Social media was flooded with reactions from both fans and critics of Allahbadia. Many called for YouTube and other platforms to enforce stricter guidelines to prevent such content from gaining traction. Others pointed out that controversial remarks and shock value have become a strategy for content creators to gain engagement, with little regard for ethical considerations.
The apology
Ranveer issued an apology on X following backlash over a controversial comment he made during a podcast episode. “My comment wasn’t inappropriate; comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry. Many asked, Is this how I used the platform? to which he stated, ‘Obviously, this is not how I wish to use it. I am not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened; I am just here for the apology. I personally had a lapse, and judgment wasn’t cool on my path. The podcast is watched by people of all ages. I don’t want to be the person that takes that responsibility lightly, and family is the last thing that I would disrespect. Need to use this platform better; that’s been my learning from this whole experience. I promised to just get better; I have asked the makers to remove the insensitive sections from the video, and all I can say in the end is, Sorry, I hope you can forgive me as a human being.”
