Parliamentary Panel may summon YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia over vulgar remarks - Report

YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as “BeerBiceps,” finds himself in the middle of a growing controversy over his remarks on the roast show ‘India’s Got Latent.’ Despite issuing a public apology, the matter has escalated into a significant legal and political crisis, with multiple FIRs filed against him and the potential involvement of a parliamentary panel on Information Technology (I-T).
Following complaints from several Members of Parliament, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology is reportedly considering summoning Allahbadia. He may be issued a formal notice to appear before the panel and answer questions related to his controversial remarks. Moreover, Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena (UBT) has expressed her intention to raise the issue in the committee, stating that abusive language in the name of comedy content is unacceptable. She emphasized that having a platform does not give anyone the right to make inappropriate remarks. Highlighting Allahbadia’s influence, she pointed out that even political leaders, including the Prime Minister, have associated with his platform.
Meanwhile, Police complaints have been registered in Mumbai and Guwahati against Allahbadia and other participants in the episode, including comic Samay Raina, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, influencer Apoorva Makhija, and comedian Jaspreet Singh. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that an FIR had been filed against the group for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in a sexually explicit discussion.
Facing public outrage, Allahbadia released a video statement yesterday (Feb 10) admitting that his comments were inappropriate and apologizing for his lapse in judgment. He acknowledged that the remarks were neither funny nor appropriate and emphasized that comedy was not his forte. Expressing remorse, he assured viewers that he had learned from the experience and would use his platform more responsibly in the future.
The incident has sparked widespread debates on digital content ethics and the responsibilities of social media influencers. Hashtags like #BoycottRanveerAllahbadia and #UnfollowBeerBiceps have trended on social media, with users demanding stricter regulations for online content. The involvement of a parliamentary panel underscores the seriousness of the issue and highlights the growing scrutiny on digital creators. With legal and political pressures mounting, it remains to be seen whether Allahbadia will be formally summoned and how this controversy will impact the influencer community.
