Pantnagar airport to undergo major upgrade with Rs 38cr expansion
RUDRAPUR: Work has begun on the Rs 387 crore expansion of Pantnagar airport, which will allow Boeing and Airbus aircraft to operate and improve air connectivity in the Kumaon region. The project has started with construction of a boundary wall on 524 acres of newly acquired land.Airport director Pawan Kumar said, “The expansion includes extending the runway to Code-E standards and building a new modern terminal. The upgraded runway will support night operations and be equipped with advanced navigation and lighting systems.The new 8,500 sqm terminal will handle 475 passengers at peak hours and over 10 lakh passengers annually. It will have two boarding bridges, lifts, escalators, modern baggage handling, cargo facilities and self check-in systems.“The project will follow GRIHA-4 sustainability standards and include renewable energy use, improved parking and enhanced fire safety facilities.
