‘Naboborsho is about embracing who we are — rooted in tradition for new beginnings’

For Poila Boishakh, entrepreneur and style connoisseur Oiendrila Ray Kapur crafted a morning look rooted in tradition yet styled with a bold, contemporary edge. She turned to the ever-elegant Dhakai sari and chose her close friend, actress Sauraseni Maitra — known for giving the classic six yards a fashionable twist — to bring the look to life. Together, they celebrated the Bengali New Year with a blend of heritage, friendship, and fearless fashion.
Sauraseni brings poise and panache to her morning Dhakai look: Oiendrila Ray Kapur
Entrepreneur and fashion curator Oiendrila Ray Kapur says styling her friend Sauraseni was a labour of love. Jewellery was chosen to echo the embroidery, featuring Navratna balis and a jadau haath phool for a statement finish. “The haath phool is usually bridal, but when worn minimally, it really works for daywear too,” says Oiendrila.
She added, “For my own look, I wore my mother’s traditional white and gold Dhakai sari, paired with a flowing jacket to break the norm. That’s my mantra — mix it up! I even styled it with Rajasthani choodas as bangles for that offbeat touch.”
‘Sauraseni is a natural with saris. The Dhakai is the queen of Bengali weaves, and it felt like the perfect pick for Naboborsho morning‘ – Oiendrila Ray Kapur

“It feels amazing to be styled by Tuchi di — that’s what I call Oiendrila. She is elegance personified. Every time I see her, I admire how effortlessly chic she is. And with this Poila Boishakh look, I could feel the love and intention she put into every detail.”
Blurb: The embroidered panel on this traditional look was the highlight for me. It stayed true to who I am, but still felt like a fresh take. That’s her magic – Sauraseni Maitra
