Mohanlal’s much-anticipated action drama ‘L2: Empuraan’, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has officially joined the Rs 100 crore club within just 12 days of its theatrical release.
Movie mints Rs 100.10 crores
According to early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk website, the film has minted a total of ₹100.10 crore at the Indian box office across all languages.
The film had a stellar opening day with Rs 21 crore, driven primarily by a massive turnout in the Malayalam belt. After a slight dip on Day 2, the collections saw a weekend surge with Sunday clocking Rs 13.65 crore. The momentum was sustained through the first week, closing at ₹88.25 crore. Despite the expected weekday drops in Week 2, Empuraan maintained steady collections with Day 12 (Monday) bringing in Rs 1.75 crore, taking its total net collection to Rs 100.10 crore.
Occupancy rates
The breakdown of Day 12 collections shows continued support in the Malayalam market, complemented by modest contributions from the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi versions. On Monday, April 7, the Malayalam version witnessed an overall occupancy of 16.30%, with the highest turnout during night shows at 21.83%. The Tamil version showed an 11.45% occupancy, with afternoon shows recording slightly better numbers.
ETimes review
We gave the film a rating of 3.5 star out of 5. Our review reads, “The work that Prithviraj and Murali Gopi have put into developing the story is visible and impressive in the first half. But we miss the nous, that some of our Malayalam political thrillers of the 80s and 90s had. Also, a mass entertainer needs massy dialogues; this is a big miss in the movie. Deepak Dev’s music perfectly matches the brilliantly visualised scenes; we get involved Khureshi’s quests and get a feel for the mood, thanks to this. Sujith Vasudev’s camerawork balances the fast and mellow scenes superbly throughout. The actors, including Mohanlal and Manju Warrier, come across as a bit restrained. Maybe we would like to see a bit more bombast in a mass entertainer.”
