Kishori Shahane: I had done a dance number in a Marathi film when I was pregnant
When actor Kishori Shahane looks back at the early years of her marriage, she remembers them as some of the busiest yet most fulfilling times of her life. “When I got married, I was in the middle of so many projects,” she recalls. “There was a film going on, a serial shooting, and my movie Bomb Blast with Ronit Roy, directed by my husband Deepak Balraj, had just released in June 1993. By December, we decided to get married.”At that point, Shahane had already worked in about 40–45 Marathi films, a few Hindi projects, and several TV serials and ads. “I felt I had done enough work and it was time to settle down,” she says. But the work didn’t stop. Soon after marriage, she found herself expecting her first child while still shooting back-to-back films and television shows. She continued working through her pregnancy, following her doctor’s advice to take basic precautions—avoiding strenuous movement, climbing too many stairs, or taking bumpy auto rides. “I even did a dance number in a Marathi film while pregnant. The choreographer planned it so I didn’t have to move much,” she says.By the seventh month, her doctor finally advised her to rest. “He told me, ‘You’ll start working again after delivery, so take a break now.’” The actress wrapped up her remaining commitments and focused on her health. Looking back, she believes the discipline and energy she maintained during that phase shaped not just her career, but her family life too.
