Jeremy Renner recently opened up about the tragic snowplow accident that changed his life forever.
According to an excerpt from his upcoming memoir, the Marvel star reflected on how a small mistake had led to the terrifying incident on January 1, 2023. At that time, Renner had stepped out with his nephew to clear the heavy snow. While operating the snowplow, he noticed that his nephew was in danger of being crushed by the machine. In an attempt to protect him, Renner ended up severely injuring himself.
In his memoir, Renner admitted that he had forgotten to follow an important safety step. He explained that the snowplow manual clearly instructed drivers to “apply the parking brake” before getting out of the cab. However, in the rush of the moment, he neither applied the brake nor disengaged the vehicle’s steel tracks. He called this lapse a “tiny but monumental slip of the mind” that ended up changing the course of his life.
Renner went on to describe the terrifying scene. He shared that his feet slipped on the moving tracks, preventing him from reaching the cab. In a sudden moment, he was thrown forward uncontrollably. He described himself flying over the spinning tracks, crashing hard onto the icy ground, and hitting his head severely.
He also recalled feeling the powerful steel machinery crush parts of his body. In his writing, the actor detailed the many serious injuries he suffered but said he would always be grateful for the paramedics who provided life-saving care right away.
Despite the intense recovery journey, Renner has managed to make a remarkable comeback. He returned to acting by working on Season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown. Fans will also soon see him in the next Knives Out movie alongside Daniel Craig, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Glenn Close, and Andrew Scott.
