Jana Nayagan Movie Release Date Postponed Live Updates: Madras High Court to give verdict on Vijay’s film today
Thalapathy Vijay’s much awaited film ‘Jana Nayagan’, directed by H. Vinoth was officially postponed just two days before its scheduled worldwide theatrical release on January 9, 2026. This last-minute decision has left fans worried, as the movie marks Vijay’s final big-screen appearance before he fully transitions into politics with his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party. The postponement has been primarily due to delays in obtaining certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), despite the board viewing the film on December 19, 2025. ‘Jana Nayagan’ was expected to release on around 5,000 screens worldwide. Now the reports from India Today say that the censor verdict for the film will be out on 10:30 am on this day.
The makers approached the Madras High Court seeking urgent intervention to meet the deadline, but the court reserved its order, complicating matters further. TVK member CTR Nirmal Kumar alleged deliberate delays by the CBFC, calling it a “misuse of power,” while advance bookings remained limited to regions like Karnataka, Kerala, and overseas due to the uncertainty.
The court was informed that one dissenting member of the examining committee raised objections and sent a complaint to the CBFC chairman. The other four members had suggested a U/A 16+ certificate. Since the objection was not cleared, the matter went to the revising committee. Because of this, the film could not get clearance in time.
