Gulshan Grover reveals how he reconnected with his son Sanjay after divorce from his wife, recalls how being a Punjabi father he got angry with him during a meeting with THIS Hollywood studio

Veteran Bollywood actor Gulshan Grover, often hailed as the industry’s iconic ‘bad man’, recently spoke about his son Sanjay Grover and how he once had a high profile meeting with a Hollywood studio. Gulshan being a Punjabi father got so frustrated as Sanjay almost opposed to everything during that meeting. Sanjay is now gearing up for the release of his next production, ‘Heer Express’ directed by ‘OMG: Oh My God’ director Umesh Shukla. As Gulshan recently appeared on Archana Puran Singh’s Youtube channel, he spoke about how he reconnected with his son Sanjay after divorce from his wife. The film marks a significant moment for the Grovers — it’s produced by Sanjay, who brings with him years of international experience as a development executive in Hollywood. Reflecting on this father-son reunion through cinema, Gulshan shared, “Working on the project gave us an opportunity to reconnect,” revealing that Sanjay had spent much of his life apart from him due to his parents’ separation. “Sanjay grew up away from me, as he’d divorced his mother,” he added with candor. Now in a more reflective phase of his life, Gulshan said his focus has shifted from personal ambitions to seeing his son flourish. When Archana’s husband, actor Parmeet Sethi, asked how he would like to be remembered, Gulshan responded emotionally, “I want to see big success, big achievements, but for my son, Sanjay Grover.”Recalling a pivotal moment in Sanjay’s Hollywood journey, Gulshan narrated an incident that left a lasting impression. While Sanjay was still studying at UCLA, Gulshan had a meeting at MGM Studios with former co-CEO Mary Parent. Sanjay insisted on tagging along, excited to see the Oscars displayed in the studio’s lobby. But what happened inside the boardroom surprised everyone — especially Gulshan. “Sanjay kept contradicting everything she said. Like any Punjabi dad, I felt like taking him out and thrashing him. But, to my surprise, after the meeting, Mary handed him her details and said that a job would be waiting for him once he graduates. I was so proud. I felt like a village idiot,” he laughed. So why did Sanjay walk away from a promising career in Hollywood? According to Gulshan, the answer is simple — family. “I am divorced from his mother, and she lives separately. Any parent would feel like enough is enough, my son has lived outside for so many years, we should live together now,” he explained. They worked out an arrangement where Sanjay lives on the top floor of Gulshan’s duplex while the actor stays on the lower level. “He was free to enter my space, but I didn’t have permission to enter his space,” Gulshan chuckled. He also admitted that convincing Sanjay to return to India wasn’t easy — and required a bit of heartfelt manipulation. “I had to emotionally blackmail him,” Gulshan said, referring to how he coaxed his son to give acting a shot.Sanjay, who previously worked at MGM, recently co-produced Dear Jassi, directed by Tarsem Singh. Now, with ‘Heer Express’ helmed by Umesh Shukla — known for ‘OMG – Oh My God’ and ‘102 Not Out’ — the father-son duo hopes to leave an indelible mark together.
